Hello Open Source enthusiasts,
Its a tradition that the open source developers have a unique cyber-names called as nick names on IRC’s(Internet Relay Chats). Some times IRC’s are even called as Cyberspaces in the hacker terminology.
So, many of the developers who first encounter with the OpenSource development have asked me several times “How can they register their cool cyber names”?
Here’s the answer:
Open any IRC client and add a new server as freenode.
Then as soon as you connect to the freenode server, follow the steps which are given below.
1. Select a master nickname which sounds uber cool.
2.Register your nickname by entering the following command:
/msg NickServ REGISTER <your nickname><password> <firstname.lastname@example.org>
3. You will get an error if your chosen nickname is already registered or else you would get an confirmation email to your email address.
4.Note that you need to immediately confirm your nick name by clicking on the verification link because the nickname may get expired.
Here you go, Now whenever you join any of the IRC channel
You can just type the following command for your identification:
/msg NickServ identify <nickname><your password>
